About Hollow Wren
A team of ecologists dedicated to understanding and protecting Australia's unique environments
Our Story
Hollow Wren began in 2011 when founder Dr. Rebecca Marsh noticed a gap in the ecological consulting market. Too many firms were producing templated reports that satisfied minimum regulatory requirements but missed opportunities to genuinely improve environmental outcomes.
She assembled a small team of field ecologists who shared her belief that thorough, site-specific investigation leads to better projects—for clients and for the land. That founding principle still guides every assessment we undertake.
What Drives Us
Rigour
Every conclusion we draw is backed by documented observation and established methodology. Our reports withstand scrutiny because they reflect reality, not assumption.
Transparency
We explain our findings in plain language and share our reasoning openly. Clients understand not just what we found, but why it matters for their project.
Partnership
We work alongside clients, not against them. When ecological constraints emerge, we help find workable solutions rather than simply listing problems.
Responsibility
We're accountable for the advice we give. If conditions change or new information emerges, we proactively reach out to ensure our guidance remains current.

Our Approach
We believe good ecological consulting begins with listening—to clients, to communities, and to the land itself. Before we propose solutions, we take time to understand the full context of each project.
Our assessments combine traditional field methods with modern technology. We use drone mapping for vegetation surveys, acoustic recorders for nocturnal fauna detection, and GPS tracking to document species movements. But technology supports rather than replaces careful observation by experienced ecologists.
Reports are written for their intended audience. Technical documents for councils include the regulatory references and species lists required for assessment. Client summaries focus on practical implications and clear recommendations. We adapt our communication to serve each reader's needs.
